On accuracy, source,
and limitation.

Every figure on this site came from a public IRS filing. We did not invent it, adjust it, or guarantee it. This page explains exactly where the data comes from, what we did with it, and what we did not do.

The data is public record

IRS Form 990 · via ProPublica

All financial data published on Country Club Intel is drawn from Form 990 annual information returns filed by 501(c)(7) tax-exempt organizations with the Internal Revenue Service. Federal law requires these filings to be made publicly available. We access and parse them as made available by ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer, which ingests the IRS's public XML data release.

Country Club Intel is not the original source of any financial figure on this site. The filing organization is. ProPublica is the parsing intermediary. We are the display layer. Errors that exist in the underlying filing exist here too.

Figures are as filed — nothing adjusted

no imputation · no correction

Every number we publish is reproduced exactly as the organization reported it to the IRS. We do not adjust for inflation, correct apparent errors in filings, reconcile discrepancies between years, or estimate values that were not reported.

A dash (—) throughout this site indicates that the relevant field was absent from the filing. It never represents zero. A displayed $0 means the organization actively reported zero. A dash means the organization did not report that line at all. This distinction is intentional and material.

Our identification may err

confidence scores · classifier limits

We identify country clubs using an automated classifier that evaluates NTEE codes, organization names, mission statements, and other signals present in IRS records. This process is imperfect by design — the universe of 501(c)(7) nonprofits includes organizations that describe themselves as country clubs but operate primarily as swim clubs, yacht clubs, or hunting clubs, as well as genuine country clubs that use non-standard naming.

Each profile on this site displays a confidence indicator — High or Medium — reflecting the classifier's certainty. We review edge cases manually but cannot guarantee complete accuracy across the full index. If you believe a club has been misidentified, please report it.

Coverage is incomplete by design

filing lag · taxable entities · new clubs

Not every club appears here. Organizations that operate as taxable entities rather than tax-exempt nonprofits are not required to file a Form 990 and will not be found in this index. This includes a meaningful minority of high-profile private clubs.

Annual filings also lag the tax year by six to eighteen months. A FY2024 return may not be publicly available until late 2025, and we update our data when ProPublica's feed makes it available. Where a club appears in our index but shows no financial data, it has been identified but not yet matched to a current filing. We do not impute values to fill coverage gaps.

Attribution and reuse

public domain data · editorial copyright

We ask that reproductions note Country Club Intel and the underlying source (IRS Form 990, as parsed by ProPublica) where contextually appropriate.

Our editorial content — written analysis, commentary, original data presentations, and interface design — is copyright Country Club Intel. Reporting errors

we investigate all credible reports

If you identify a factual error — a figure inconsistent with the underlying filing, a club that appears to have been misidentified, or data appearing in the wrong record — please contact us. We investigate all credible reports and correct errors that can be verified against the source filing.

We cannot correct errors that originate in the IRS filing itself. If a club filed an incorrect number with the IRS, that is the number we display. We will note known filing discrepancies where they come to our attention.
